227 people from as far away as Pittsburgh and Chambersburg attended an open forum on the impending destruction of the Shaffer Mountain ecosystem, last night (June 13) at Shade High School. Gamesa originally agreed to attend but backed out when they learned that opponents to their destructive practices would be in attendance and would be permitted to speak. Gamesa did not want to debate the important environmental issues surrounding the siting of their proposed Shaffer Mountain wind plant. They refused to participate in a similar open forum last year at the University of Pittsburgh at Johnstown. Instead Gamesa prefers a meeting format where they are the only presenters and can spew their lies unopposed. Known as "Gamesa Fests" these meetings usually precede Gamesa's rape and pillage of environmentally sensitive intact ecosystems. Blair County is next.
To stop this decimation, you must immediately contact Chris Kriley at DEP and John Arway at PA Fish and Boat Commission and demand that this project be given a FULL OPEN PUBLIC HEARING. Also, ask Mr. Arway of the PA Fish and Boat Commission to act to prevent the degradation of EV streams Piney Run and Clear Shade Creek. The PA Fish and Boat Commission has sometimes taken the position that it will only react to stream destruction and will not be proactive to prevent it. Cite their experience with stream degradation in the Allegheny National Forest after roads went in for oil and gas development. Click here for their contact info. Also call your State Senator and State Representative NOW and tell them how much you oppose this project. Click here to learn how.
You can also call and email Governor Rendell's top aid, Lance Simmens at (717) 787-2500 Lsimmens@state.pa.us. The problem we are experiencing comes from the top levels of our State Government which is aggressively promoting wind power without regard to siting criteria. This is surely an oversight. So go to the top man and ask to speak to Governor Rendell.
