Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Inventory

     In January, 2006 the Western Pennsylvania Conservancy, in conjunction with the Pennsylvania Natural Heritage Program (PNHP) issued a Natural Heritage Inventory for Somerset County that recognized and identified environmentally sensitive and ecologically important areas in the County. This information, which is being IGNORED BY GAMESA, is supposed to be used by our governmental agencies (DEP, Pa. Fish & Boat Commission, Game Commission, DCNR, etc.) and industry to plan development with the preservation of these environmentally important sites in mind. This Inventory identified the entire Piney Run watershed as a Biological Diversity Area (BDA) of special concern and Natural Heritage Area of Exceptional Significance. PNHP suggested that this area "merits quick, strong and complete protection" as it is an exceptional Biological Diversity Area. This area is identified as "Crumb Bog BDA" on the Natural Heritage Inventory map for Shade Township.

     THIS IS PRECISELY THE AREA WHERE GAMESA WANTS TO BUILD MUCH OF THEIR WIND PLANT - right in the middle of it!
