Public opposition to project
The Windber Area Authority along with every municipality served by the authority - Windber Borough, Paint Township, Paint Borough & Scalp Level Borough have stated their opposition to the Shaffer Mountain Wind Project. They are afraid that this massive industrial development in their watershed will ruin their water. On March 14, 2007 the WAA voted 5-1 AGAINST the wind plant development in their watershed. GAMESA IGNORES THIS OPPOSITION
On or about April 16, 2007 the Mountain Laurel Chapter of Trout Unlimited issued a POSITION STATEMENT on the project which calls for Gamesa & Berwind to abandon the project in the Piney Run (Creek) Watershed. Please review the Trout Unlimited Position Statement now.
